The vast majority of engines are refurbished in specialist engine workshops with the aim of restoring the engine back to OEM standards or as close to. In order to do this, thorough cleaning is paramount for inspection purposes and also to remove all carbon, grease, paint and soils.
The photos below show a Komatsu engine block being cleaned recently using an Apollo Hot Tank and a Spray Wash.
The primary clean is carried out in the hot tank for 1.5 hours using our specialised caustic chemical (no precleaning is required), the residual caustic and paint is rinsed off (5 minutes max) in the rinse bay using a water blast gun. The components are then placed in the spray wash for 10 minutes for final wash and an application of rust inhibitor. All clean and ready for inspection!
